The data set and topic that is chosen is from The World Happiness Report, ranks countries based on happiness scores. Which is accumulated from a few factors of wellbeing. The topic itself is about happiness and the sketch above is supposed to represent how the sometimes monotonous movement of life can be more vibrant and exciting, just from enjoying simple things like music.
Reflection
The topic itself is chosen because of my fascination with the World Happiness report itself, and how we humans can rank people's happiness solely based on such as their GDP, social support, etc. When happiness itself is a pretty abstract word. Hence when making the graph I wanted to try to put as detailed numbers as possible to try to make sense of the data itself.
The word Ikigai is a Japanese word that translates to a reason for being, finding a reason for being / existing one can find joy. This reason can come from very mundane things and show that looking for happiness doesn't need to be complicated. Hence the illustration sketch is supposed to represent finding joy in simple things in life.
The wave movement is based on the imagery of alpha waves that our brain produces when we felt joy or contentment. When the sound reaches a certain frequency the dots are dispersed and change colors.
For the graph, the line graph is chosen because it represents the movement of the ranking the best, and the ability to explore the graph in a 3D plane help gave more room for information, which is used to show the total score and the score of each factor.
Issues
One of the issues that I found was when inserting the iframe into the HTML itself and how the microphone didn't work at first. This happened because the content itself is from a third party and the browser block this function to prevent third party contents from using your camera, microphone, or audio unknowingly. I solved this by following this particular link and using the allow attribute.
Feedback
For the graph first sketch and testing, some people say that the graph is hard to read because there isn't any legend in the beginning, and they found it hard to interact with the graph.
For the illustration sketch, the color is great and relates to the graph, and the buttons are pretty straight forward to use.
Achievements
I think one of the achievements that I got from this project is the ability to use a 3D space and create interactive data that can be explored to show even more data. Another thing is the ability to use the sound function to help enhance the viewing experience.
